Come do nothing with us this February.

Who out there needs to slow down??

We sure do. Writing is work. Living is work. We need to find ways to quiet our minds and lower the volume on the world around us.

But even when we want to, it can be hard to figure out how. There’s no magical radio dial to turn down our neural pathways, no spell to let our brains find new tempos. And meanwhile, there is so much noise and pressure to keep going.

So, this February we’re trying something new — harnessing the gentle presence of community to help us slow down.

There’s a lot of research into the benefits of gathering with others to create what we want to create. This is sometimes called “body doubling” — the simple idea that the presence of others helps us stay on task. In this case, “task” may mean doodling, staring out the window, reading a chapter of that book, napping, dreaming, writing or simply telling the people around you “I have a class” and then showing up to take a couple breaths and see what happens.

Will you come slow down with us?

Here’s the plan:

We’ll be peppering the middle of February with “Write, Read, Rest” sessions for you to choose from. They will run over the two weeks from February 3rd to 15th. You’ll have lots of options, and zero pressure to come to them all.

The sessions will be simple. We’ll have 10–15 minutes of settling in, with a check-in in the chat, and a little meditation or mindful breathing to help us transition. Then we’ll have the rest of the beautiful hour to do whatever the heck we want. We’ll close with a comforting poem, to help us transition back into our day.

Pajamas, bath robes, sweats, and slippers are very welcome. So are business suits if you’re joining from work. Come as you are! Come and do nothing with us.

We will meet on Zoom over 2 weeks in February — the weeks of February 3rd and February 10th.

There are 12 sessions in total, come to as many or as few as you like.

Price:

The one-time fee to access all the sessions is on a sliding scale of $75–$175. If you’re unemployed, or earning minimum wage, we encourage you to pay the lowest amount. If you have a comfortable income, equity and savings, we suggest a higher fee. You’re in charge.

If you don’t have a credit card, or can’t currently afford the base fee, let us know, we’ll find a way to make it work.
